What is a Criterion?
The Criterion is the TEST for whether we hit the Value. If Value = Justice, Criterion = 'maximizing rights' or 'rectifying past harms.'
Value vs Criterion in one breath
Value = the goal. Criterion = the ruler you measure it with. They MUST be different words — judges collapse them otherwise.
Common pairs
Justice / Rawlsian veil. Morality / Utilitarianism. Autonomy / Self-determination. Pick a pair you can defend in CX.
